reminiscence
by Lauri Benblatt, from the memorial service.
How do you begin to write something so difficult? There are no
words to express the shock, the sadness, the emptiness, the loss….When
I think about Tom, and my life and relationship with him, there are so
many things that come up for me that it is too much to put into written
form. So this is the best that I could do.
Kind
Generous
Selfless
Pure
Loving
Two worlds meeting in the middle- one from the Midwest,
one from New York. Much work, but always fun, with love, respect
and commitment
Relationship

Long walks at night
Long walks in the day
Lazy days at home
Evenings of discussions
Cooking together
Him cooking for me
Chocolate- dark
Ice cream
Stubborn- both him and me, but always with laughter in
the end
Learning from him
Him learning from me
Individual and relationship growth
Family
Difficult at times, easy at times
Individuals
Separated at times, always coming back together
Laughter, kisses, crying, making love, tears, holding hands, hugging-smiling
Spiritual connection
More laughter
More mbira
Deeply saddened and sensitive to the world
But always light at heart and bringing joy and love to it in every
way possible
Tea time-rye crackers with avocado, carrots, cheese,
cucumber, tomatoes- all sliced very thinly
My best friend
My soul mate
My teacher
Gentle
Caring
Pure heart
Pure spirit
Always there
Always helping others, yet difficult to receive- so kind and generous
Funny funny funny! Quirky sense of humor
Creative!
Beautiful photographer-documented his life this way
Brilliant musician- in his soul
Difficult to always commit to things,
Yet always committed at heart and with his whole being
Work, play
Teaching each other how to open up more, to share, to trust, to
really let go- to love
Mbira
Love for Zimbabwe
Watching movies
Accepting
No judgment
Unknown at times-
Open door to anyone and everyone- purest of souls
